Neighborhood
You're going to love our neighborhood! Petworth has been our home for many years, and it's one of the reasons I fell in love with Washington, DC. It's friendly, walkable, and full of character, with tree-lined streets, historic homes, wonderful local restaurants, neighborhood coffee shops, grocery stores, and easy Metro access. One of my favorite things to do is to hang on either the front or back porch and imagine President Lincoln riding his horse from Lincoln's Cottage (just around the corner from us) to The White House. Back then our property was simply the field that surrounded his summer retreat on the hill above the federal city. You're also just minutes from Rock Creek Park; the National Zoo; U Street, Adams Morgan and Mount Pleasant neighborhoods; Upshur, 11th and 14th Street restaurant corridors; and the Smithsonian museums, making it easy to experience both the city's famous landmarks and its vibrant local neighborhoods.
Guest Access
Guests have access to the top two floors of the home, accessible by both the front and back porches. You may see Phoenix, my son, or I on the property as we maintain the separate unit below.
Good to know
Staying here is a chance to experience one of Washington's historic neighborhoods while enjoying all the comforts of one of the more thoughtfully renovated vacation rentals in Washington DC. Built in 1915 in the shadow of President Lincoln’s Cottage — Lincoln and his family’s summer retreat during the Civil War — this historic row house blends vintage Victorian charm with modern comfort. The fully equipped kitchen includes cookware, oil, salt and pepper, sugar, coffee, creamer, and assorted teas. Prefer dining out? Some of DC’s favorite local restaurant corridors along Upshur Street, 14th Street, and 11th Street NW are just blocks away. Inside, guests can enjoy Smart TVs in the living room and bedrooms with Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN streaming, plus a Bluetooth stereo for music throughout your stay. The newly renovated bathroom features a relaxing soaking tub and shower combination. Need to work remotely? A separate upstairs office includes a desk, couch, and dedicated workspace. The office loveseat also folds out and may accommodate a young adult or small child as an additional sleeping area. Outdoors you can enjoy the Chimenea, comfortable covered seating, outdoor lighting, and classic yard games. The home also offers both front and back porches perfect for morning coffee or relaxing after a day exploring the city. Whether you're visiting DC to explore the museums, attend a conference, visit family, or simply relax after a day of sightseeing, we hope you'll feel at home!

Petworth metro (green line) is just 3.5 blocks away and a straight shot (5 stops) to the Smithsonian mall. Grab a bike share or one of the many electric scooters at the corner of New Hampshire and Georgia Avenue and enjoy dedicated bike lanes on 7th, 11th or 15th Streets NW or cut over to the Metropolitan Branch Trail (to Smithsonian mall) or Rock Creek Park bike trail (to Georgetown/Smithsonian mall). I also enjoy the walk to the Smithsonian mall. Takes about 45 minutes depending on how many stops you do along the way. Take Georgia Avenue to 7th Street and you'll have fun stuff all along the route.
